It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update, so I just thought I’d drop you guys a line and let you know what’s going on in my world since the release of “Built to Last.” Don’t worry; I’m still here, I’m still working, and I still love you!
What I've been up to:
After spending the better part of two months inside the malfunctioning mind of Sallie Starlinger, I needed to take a short break and clear my head. Those of you who’ve read “Built to Last” will understand that, I’m sure!
So I took some personal time, went out west to visit my brother and his family out in Arizona. While out there, I attended The Bash, a punk rock and craft beer festival which featured my all-time favorite band, Rancid, as its headliner. It was good seeing everyone and going to the festival with my brother!
I didn’t get much writing done during my travels, but that’s okay. I never expected to. Now, I’m back in Jax with my nose to the ol’ proverbial grindstone and working on Introductions to the Darklands Part 2.
What I'm writing now:
Right now, I’m working on Introductions to the Darklands Part 2.
Though set in the same universe and at the same time as “Built to Last,” this will be a totally different story, not a sequel to “Built to Last.” The purpose of BTL was to introduce us to Sallie Starlinger and to showcase her abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, but Sallie is only one of the characters I’m eager to introduce to you.
In total, there are six major characters I plan on introducing throughout the Introductions to the Darklands series. Some of these characters are heroes while others are villains. I’ll let you decide which is which. I plan on introducing all six over the course of four “Parts.” Each of the four novella-length “Parts” will introduce one or two of these characters as well as several aspects of the greater Darklands universe. Once the “Introductions” series is complete, I plan on bringing all of the six primary characters together for a multipart book series.
Introductions Pt. 2 will be more of a heist story intended to introduce us to two more of these major characters. Danny Jake is a smooth-talking, rakish conman who’s always willing to risk big to win big. Marcio Ruiz is an introverted, soft-hearted hacker who will do almost anything to protect those he loves, even lie, cheat, and steal for the mob. Now these two very different strangers are going to have to work together to rob a psycho-sadistic mob boss. If they play it right, they might just get off the planet Distortion alive, wealthy, and um… in tact.
Introductions 2 doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s shaping up nicely. I have a couple of working titles, but none I really like. As soon as I have a title, cover art, updates, or projected release date, I’ll let you know here.
As always, thanks for reading! Check back soon for more updates.
